NEW YORK — Forty years ago, for one fleeting moment, the Knicks and the Nets nearly had a rivalry worth contemplating.

The Knicks were the NBA’s defending champions, having defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals. The Nets were a rising force in the ABA and had just acquired Julius Erving, already a magnetic star.

They resided in different leagues and in distant zip codes—the Knicks playing in Manhattan, with dominion over the five boroughs, and the Nets residing in the suburbs of Long Island.

They met in a 1973 exhibition game, with the Nets taking a 98-87 victory before a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden. It was, Erving recalls in his autobiography, a warning shot—a “notice to New York basketball fans that there are two championship contenders in town.”

The intrigue quickly faded, with the Knicks going into decline and the Nets relocating to New Jersey, where they would lead a marginally relevant existence for the next three decades.

Today, at long last, Erving’s vision has become a reality. The Nets are in Brooklyn, gunning for a title and a piece of the Knicks fanbase. They are again serving notice.

“Nothing is going to replace the Knicks as Manhattan’s team,” Erving said in an interview with Bleacher Report. “But in terms of New York City, Brooklyn is formidable. There’s more people in Brooklyn than Manhattan. It’s the biggest borough. …  So if they have a championship team there, they are definitely a threat to the popularity of the Knicks.”

As talented as Erving’s old Nets teams were, they were largely an afterthought in the marketplace.

“Even though we won championships in Long Island, you still couldn’t knock the Knicks off that mantle, because of Madison Square Garden and because they were in Manhattan,” Erving said. “When (the Nets) moved to New Jersey, it was no comparison. They were not a threat. But right now, they're close and they're going to be good. Both teams are going to be good.”

Erving added, “I’m going to be pulling for the Nets, because that’s my old franchise, my old team.”

He praised the Nets’ summer roster makeover and the bold decision to hire Jason Kidd as head coach, saying, “They’ve done a lot of things right, and it’s going to be fun to watch.”

Erving has never attended a game in Brooklyn, but his No. 32 Nets jersey—retired in 1987—hangs from the Barclays Center rafters. He has had little interaction with the franchise in recent years, in part because of his role with the Philadelphia 76ers, who employ him as a strategic adviser.

Erving had to decline an invitation to Kidd’s jersey retirement last month because of a scheduling conflict. But he seemed eager to help celebrate the next big occasion: the 40th anniversary of the Nets’ ABA championship. That anniversary arrives next year.

“One of these days, they're going to invite me back to the arena and I’m going to accept,” Erving said, smiling broadly, “and we’re going to have a grand old time.”

 

Some other highlights from Erving’s interview with Bleacher Report this week:

 

 

• A fashion trend-setter in his time, Erving said he enjoys seeing today’s NBA players try to outdo each other on the postgame stage. Even if some of them have pushed from the cutting edge to the bleeding edge.

“There are a lot of NBA players who are candidates for Joan Rivers right now,” Erving said. “It takes a little bit of the stress and the pressure off of playing the game. Like Dwyane Wade last year, he had a couple of things that were ridiculous, that he wore pregame and postgame. And I think he knew that they were ridiculous. But they diverted a little bit of attention from the pressures of the game. Because the game brings a lot of pressure.”

So, the capri pants? “You got it. That was one.”

Erving has also been struck by the outlandish sartorial choices of Russell Westbrook.

“Russell and Dwyane, they might be 1-2; they might be having a little contest right now to see who can mix it up the best and cause the most controversy,” he said.

 

 

• Every child of the 1980s fondly remembers the video game, One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird. Erving said he never played it.

“I’m not a video-game player,” he said. “I have the type of personality, if I start doing something I want to do it all the time. Obsessive-compulsive, I guess. So I don’t mess with it. It consumes too much time.”

Although they were bitter rivals, Erving and Bird collaborated on the game with Electronic Arts. But there was still some gamesmanship in he process.

“We collaborated together, and then the collaboration was with EA individually, so that each of us who had any secrets would be telling it to EA, but not telling it to the other guy,” Erving said.

• In retirement, Erving has generally eschewed the spotlight, in contrast to some of his contemporaries, such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Prior to the release of his book, and an NBA TV documentary earlier this year, Erving largely declined interviews.

“I’ve never elected to overexpose myself,” he said. “Jordan or Magic Johnson have long been retired, but really care to see their name in lights, or associated with things, and they’ve done a great job. That’s consistent with their personality. But it’s not consistent with my personality to want to see my name up in lights around the world. It’s just not a match for me.”

• Though he played for the Nets and the 76ers, Erving’s rooting interests are, figuratively speaking, all over the map.

As a proud veteran of the ABA, Erving said he pulls for the four surviving franchises from that league: Indiana, San Antonio, Denver and Brooklyn. “My teams,” he called them.

He also watches a lot of Atlanta Hawks games, because he lives there and is friendly with the owners. The rest of his NBA-watching schedule is dictated by his children. His 12-year-old is a Chicago Bulls fan. His 15-year-old is a Miami Heat fan. His two daughters root for the Knicks.

Erving will cheer along with them—“but not if they're playing against one of my teams,” he said.

Erving also has a soft spot for the Oklahoma City Thunder and counts himself a fan of Westbrook and Kevin Durant.

“I like their ascension,” he said.

• So, who is the most Dr. J-like player in the league today?

“Well, Blake Griffin dunks like the Doc used to dunk—and throws it down in people’s faces and stuff like that,” Erving said. “He’s like a big forward. He’s not really a small forward. Kobe, if he can get out there and have another season like last season, where he’s still got it. … LeBron is great at finishing in transition. So I think I was a really good finisher in transition.”

e NBA has long been a star-driven league, from the days of Wilt and Russell, to the era of Larry, Magic and Michael, to more modern times of Shaq, Kobe, AI and the current generation of King James’ reign.

Perhaps in the NBA more than any other major American sport, the announcers have been as much a part of the game as the players. Is it possible that Charles Barkley is more important to the game of basketball as a studio analyst than he was as a Hall of Fame player? Where would Chick Hearn rank in terms of important members of the Los Angeles Lakers organization?

What kid didn't grow up shooting hoops in the driveway and mimicking Marv Albert’s “Yesss…and it counts” every time the imaginary clock in his head wound down to one second to go with the game on the line?

Who among us doesn't dunk a crumpled piece of paper into the recycling with "no regard for human life"?

We love the game for the action on the court, the drama of a tight contest late in the fourth quarter and the excitement of a budding superstar having a career night on the brightest stage. The biggest moments, many of which come accompanied with the call from some of the industry’s best announcers, are etched in our minds forever.

So who are those announcers? Like most professional sports, the NBA has had the fortune of being associated with some of the industry’s best play-by-play voices. The NBA has a strong tradition of color analysts as well, some of whom became more known for their work calling the game than playing it.

This list is confined (almost) to play-by-play announcers and color analysts. It's part of a series of announcers rankings from Bleacher Report. Previously featured: NFL announcers, MLB announcers, and college fotball announcers.

This is a look at some of the most memorable announcers in the NBA, with a strong focus on national television broadcasters, many of whom are still working today. As with any of our rankings, this is a purely subjective exercise, and if your favorite announcer or local legend didn't make the list, it doesn't mean he wasn't great. It probably just means that the list of industry experts I asked for help didn't mention him. Or they did, and I picked someone else instead. Sorry in advance, Joe Tait fans.

As with most of these historical lists, there were more than 25 names I wanted to include. This is a brief acknowledgement of some of the names that deserve recognition in some way and that I couldn't fit in the final 25. They are presented alphabetically.

 

David Aldridge and Craig Sager

This is the first of many times B/R's partners at Turner will be mentioned. This is also the first time, in any ranking we've done for any sport, that a sideline reporter is mentioned, but with both D.A. and Sager, we felt it was important to recognize the role in a telecast and how it can be done right.

The nature of basketball—smaller playing surface, ability to listen to the huddle and hear chatter on the court and access to players and coaches usually willing to talk (Pop) during and after the game—makes the basketball sideline reporter a useful role, not just window dressing. Aldridge and Sager do the job very differently, but each is great in his own way.

 

Gary Bender

Bender began his broadcasting career in the 1960s working football, baseball and basketball, including the first NCAA tournament on CBS and the 1981 NBA Finals with Rick Barry and Bill Russell. Bender was the play-by-play announcer for the Phoenix Suns for nearly 20 years.

 

Quinn Buckner

Buckner was a solid NBA player in his career and has proven to be just as solid as a broadcaster. He had a few stints nationally with both NBC and ESPN, and he currently works as the vice president of communications and as an in-game announcer for the Indiana Pacers.

 

Doris Burke

Burke’s star is rising, and some might suggest she deserves to be in the Top 25 ranking. She is fantastic, an absolute trailblazer for women in broadcasting and one of the nicest people I've had the chance to meet—many moons ago when she was doing high-level women’s college basketball games for ESPN.

I felt putting her in an all-time list would be making a statement I didn't want to make, and frankly, over the last few years, her cadence and pacing have become a bit sensationalized when calling games.

Burke is a great studio analyst and a solid interviewer, but she allows the emotion of the game—certainly in her college basketball assignments—to gin up the excitement, almost in an effort to sound more like Dick Vitale or Bill Raftery than herself. When she is true to herself and her style, she’s downright fantastic.

 

Billy Cunningham

Cunningham was a longtime player and coach for the Sixers. Upon leaving the coaching ranks, he took to broadcasting local and national games. From a 1987 Philadelphia Inquirer story about Cunningham taking over for Tommy Heinsohn as the lead national analyst at CBS:

Why was Heinsohn, a former player and successful Celtics coach, dropped into a less important spot? "I don't know," Cunningham said. "During the summer, I got a phone call to meet with CBS. During the luncheon, they came out and said, 'We want you to be the No. 1 analyst.' They didn't say, 'Tommy did this, and we don't want you to do that.'"

"It was difficult for me, having a lot of respect for Tommy as a man and a basketball person. I called him and let him know, 'I didn't pursue your job.'"

Cunningham eventually left broadcasting to take a minority ownership role in the Miami Heat, a position that did not last very long.

 

Dick Enberg

Enberg finds himself on every one of these lists, and while he is more well known for other sports—football, tennis and even baseball—he was a mainstay for NBC’s NBA coverage for the entire decade of the 1990s.

 

Matt Guokas

Guokas has been in the NBA for more than 40 years, first as a player, then as the head coach of the Sixers and Magic. After leaving Orlando, he served as a color commentator for the NBA on NBC. He also worked local games for the Cleveland Cavaliers and, until this season, Orlando. From Kelly Dwyer at Ball Don’t Lie:

[T]o those of us that make our living diving into the NBA League Pass package from October until April, desperately trying to keep up with each of the league’s 30 teams, Guokas has been a welcome voice throughout the legions of both blithely unaware and doggedly partisan local NBA color analysts. That isn’t to say I don’t enjoy the great majority of local color guys, as that majority are usually quite good.

Guokas was great, though. The best, perhaps.

 

Kevin Loughery

Loughery had the chance in his NBA coaching career to mentor Dr. J and Michael Jordan. He used that experience in the booth, calling local and national games, most notably in the 1980s for CBS.

 

Dick Stockton

Stockton surely has a case for being in the Top 25. He called the NBA Finals on CBS from 1982 through 1990 and was the network’s lead NBA announcer for most of the 1980s. Stockton gets a bit of a bad rap at this point in his career. He is nearing his 71st birthday, still calling games for Fox Sports and Turner.

While the last few years have certainly not been his best, there was a point in his career when Stockton was as good as anyone in the game.

 

Chris Webber

Webber has become a rising star in the broadcasting world in his short time since retiring as a player. A standout in the studio for NBA TV and Turner, Webber has shown he is a fantastic in-game analyst as well. I’ll admit, as a Sixers fan, Webber’s time with the team—and departure from the city—probably has skewed my opinion of him. He may be even better than I admit.

BARKLEY

OK, look…I promised this list was going to be just in-game announcers, analysts and reporters and would specifically NOT include studio personalities, but it’s impossible to have a list of great basketball voices and not include Charles Barkley.

Simply put, he’s the best. He’s the best today, he’ll be the best tomorrow, and when we look back at the history of American sports on television, he will be the best then, too. And to be fair, it’s not as if Barkley has never called games before. There have been a few games when Barkley has stepped out of friendly confines of the studio to call a game in the arena. He’s great at that, too, albeit from a more conversational standpoint.

What makes Barkley the best? He just doesn’t seem to care if anyone is offended by his opinions. He is unabashedly honest, candid and self-deprecating. And he had the playing career to back it up. His opinion matters, and he knows that. Barkley understands his place in the game and is still as approachable as can be.

עמרי כספי. היית גדול במשחק הכדורסל החשוב ביותר שנערך היום בעולם. איך ההרגשה, הא?

הצרה שכל שאר שחקני הקבוצה מלבד  גרג סמית' , קצת גרסיה, וקצת אהרון ברוקס הסריחו את הפרקט, ובעיקר סופרמן עם 4 מ-9 ל-13 נק', 9 ריב', וחסימה אחת. היו גולשים שחזו במשחק איתי וגיחכו עלי, "תראה איך האוארד עושה מדיאדרה ג'ורדן שלך מים". כן? לג'ורדן לא היה יום טוב, אבל טוב יותר מאשר להאורד:  4 מ-5 ל-11, 9 ריב', וחסימה אחת. תסתכלו על שיווי המשקל הנפלא בקליפרס, בראשות הגניבה הגדולה שלהם ג'יי ג'יי רדיק. הם היו היום ברמה שלמה מעל היוסטון רוקטס, אבל ברצוני לנחם את אפלטון: זאת רק ההתחלה. נא לא לאבד תקווה.

הוולבס חזרו מ-23 דפיציט בחצי הרבע השלישי ועד הסוף. הקאבס הובילה 84-93 עם 2:43 דק' לסיום, ומאז ועד הסיום לא קלעה נקןדה. קווין לאב קלע עם 38 טיקים לקטוע את התוצאה לנקודה הפרש. אחרי החטאה של אירוינג עם 15 טיקים, הוולבס לקחה טיים, והכדור הגיע כמובן למוביל השלשות של הליגה קווין לאב. עם 0:01 הוא החטיא את השלשה. הוא סיים עם 17 נק' ו-13 קרשים. קווין מרטין ממשיך להיות הצלף הגדול של הוולבס. הפעם 23 נק' ב-7 מ-16, כולל יום מושלם נוסף מאחורי הקשת, הערב 4 מ-4.  ניקולה פקוביץ' קלע 8 עם תריסר קרשים: לא מספיק נגד צמד המגדלים של הקאבס. רוביו 0 מ-7. אני טוען כבר מעל שנה שחוזה בריאה צריך לעלות בחמישייה במקומו.

למעשה, ההפסד הזה – הקריעה הזאת – באה בזמן הנכון ומעתה תהיה שם התקדמות איטית ונורמלית תחת מאמן גדול. הדבר הטוב שקרה לווריורס היה שאנדרה איגודלה הזכיר לכולם שגולדן סטייט לא מורכבת משני שחקנים – סטפן קרי וקייל ת'ומפסון. הוא עלה מהשנייה הראשונה עם מטרה אחת: לשים נקודות משמאל לשמו, בעברית. הוא קלע בחצי 27, ואחרי שהצהיר את הצהרתו הוא נירגע. סיים עם 11 מ-18 ל-32 נק', כולל שיא קריירה של 7 דאונטאונים מ-11. קרי ותומפסון נתנו חצי מהמנה שהורגלנו אליה – 18 לראשון ו-15 לשני, ודייויד לי שם 18 להזכיר שבקבוצה ישנו בלונדי-ג'ינג'י שהקבוצה לא יכולה בלעדיו.

כש-MCW קולע 18 ואתה כותב שהיה לו משחק בינוני בלבד זה רק מראה כמה רחוק הגיע בארבעה משחקים. אילו קלע 18 במשחק הראשון הייתי מהלל אותו היום. אבל אהבתי אותו למרות שהעור סרב להיכנס: כמו VETERAN היודע שהקבוצה לא יכולה בלעדיו, הוא המשיך לזרוק ולזרוק. כשניגמר היה לו יום גרוע של 4 מ-17. אבל הוא עשה עוד דבר: ניכנס וניכנס, חדר וחדר. היה 9 מ-12 מהקו בגין כניסותיו. ביום אחר של 17 זריקות ו-12 פאולים הוא מסוגל לקלוע 40 נק' בקלות. מה שאני לא מבין זה מדוע לא נותנים לטוני רוטן יותר דקות. הוא ניכנס כל משחק כמחליף ועושה עבודה נהדרת.

במשפט אחד: הסלטיקס לא התחילו עונה עם ארבעה הפסדים רצופים מאז 1969! 

גם המאמן בראד סטיבנס לא חלם בחלומותיו המזויעים ביותר שהוא יפסיד את ארבעת משחקיו הראשונים כמאמן. בוסטון שיחקה מצויין שניים וחצי רבעים, אבל כדורסל משחקים 4 רבעים. ג'רד ביילס התחיל עם ה-RALLY של הרבע הרביעי כשהוא קולע את כל 15 נקודותיו ברבע זה. הוא עשה זאת בעזרת 6 מ-7 ברבע הזה. עם 9 דקות לסיום הסלטיקס הובילה ב-6, ואז באה ההתמוטטות.

זאק רנדולף ומייק קונלי קלעו 15 כ"א לממפיס, כשקונולי מחלק גם 8 אסיסטים. מרק גאסול סיים עם 14 ב-6 מ-10, עם 8 קטיפות.

ג'ף גרין היה מצויין לסלטיקס כשהוא תורם 22 נק', וג'רד סולינג'ר עשה ככל מיכולתו לעזור לקלי אוליניק נגד מגדלי הגריזליס. הצרה שקלי אוליניק לא עזר לעצמו (או לסלטיקס) ביום של 1 מ-7 ל-4 נק' ו-4 ריב'. סולינג'ר קלע 16, אברי בראדלי 14, וג'ורדן קרופורד 12.

למרות שכמה גולשים ביכו את הסלטיקס, אני ראיתי סימני שיפור בקבוצה.

    המכה הכי גדולה בפילי זה שהPG המחליף שלהם יהיה מוריס שהוא ביי פאר הPG הכי גרוע בליגה שאמור לקבל דק' די משמעותיות.
    אבל קבוצה צעירה, אתלטית שתלחם כל ערב.
    קבוצות סופר HQ עם המון אופציות בהתקפה כמו הווריורס יאנסו אותם AND DAY בשנה, מול השאר שיוצאות לאותו קרב יהיה להם על מה לדבר.

    כספי מראה כמה סיטואציה חשובה לשחקן משלים. הוא יודע מה הוא עושה, אין בלגן במשחק של הקבוצה, הוא מקבל את הכדורים איפה שהוא צריך לקבל. בינתיים השחקן הטוב של יוסטון במשחק.
    מנגד הקלעים של הקליפרס פשוט עושים את העבודה.

    אני רואה שתי קבוצות שיגיעו רחוק, אבל לא רחוק מספיק.
    כי הן מתבססות על שחקנים מוגבלים.

    ביוסטון – מה שחשבתי תמיד, מטומטם נשאר מטומטם. הווארד זה לא שחקן לאליפות.

    הקליפרס – קבוצה נחמדה מאוד, אבל חוסר היכולת של גריפין (למרות 2 נחמדות מחצי מרחק בינתיים!) וג'ורדן לקלוע 2 מטר מהסל ומהעונשין זה פשוט נטל גדול מדי לסחוב!

    לא ברור לי למה כספי משחק הגנה כל כך נוראית. יש לו את כל הנתונים להיות מגן טוב. חבל כי אם הוא היה משפר את ההגנה הוא היה שחקן משלים טוב מאוד.

    אף אחד לא יקח למיליצ'יץ' את התואר. בנט יהיה בסדר דוקא, לא גדול אבל יהיה שחקן בינוני בחירה מטומטמת כשרואים את אולדיפו ואת מייקל קרטר וויליאמס…זה גורם לך לחשוב מה הם מבינים בכלל שם ב-NBA.

    מה בעצם קיבלנו מהמשחק הזה???

    שני דברים:

    1. לין אוברייטד מטורף, כל פויינט גארד A+ בליגה יפרפר אותו בפלייאוף, פווינט כמו וול או ווסט ברוק ימחצו אותו כאילו היה ג'וק.
    באיזשהו שלב נתמלאתי רחמים לסיני.

    2. להאוורד לא ממש אכפת וזה מה שאמרתי מהקיץ.
    הוא מולטי מיליונר, אחד מהסנטרים הטובים בליגה משך כל הקריירה שלו אבל לא שחקן שבאמת רוצה ויכול להיות דומיננטי מספיק כדי לקחת אליפות. הוא נעלם גדול במשחקים כאלה ולא נותן אפילו את הבייסיק.

    אני רק מחכה לימים שהוא יתחיל לבכות על זה ש-4 שחקנים ביוסטון מקבלים יותר זריקות ממנו ושהוא רוצה את הכדור בפוסט(עד למשחק הזה בפיק אנד רול השנה היה למעלה מ-70 אחוז) וזה יפיל את כל המערכת שם.
    למעשה סוד ההצלחה שלהם זה אם האוורד הקריי בייבי הגדול בליגה לא יתחיל לתת הוראות כי עוד זריקות להאוורד זה לחלוטין פוגע באחרים אין פה 0.

      התסכול כאוהד לייקרס מדבר מפיך.
      ההבדל הגדול בין השנה לשנה שעברה זה הרצון של הווארד.
      אולי לאוהדי לייקרס קשה לקבל את זה שהווארד העדיף קבוצה אחרת אבל זאת האמת. מאמצע השנה שעברה היה ברור שהווארד לא רוצה להצליח בלייקרס. שהווארד רוצה להיות הסמל של המועדון שהוא משחק בו וזה לא הייתה אופציה בלייקרס. שהווארד סופר את הדקות עד שתסתיים העונה והוא יעשה ויברח ללייקרס.

        אם יש איזה שהוא הבדל בין העונה לעונה שעברה, זה רק שלהווארד כבר אין אופציית יציאה – הוא חתום ל 4 שנים.

        הווארד חשב שבקבוצה אחרת הוא יהיה האופציה הראשונה, הסמל, האיש הגדול – למרות ששום דבר שהוא הראה בלייקרס לא גרם לחשוב שהוא שווה את זה.

        והנה זה כבר ברור לכולם שגם ביוסטון הוא לא מסוגל להוביל קבוצה, והם ילכו לאן שהארדן יקח אותם.

        עוד מעט כשגם הווארד יבין את זה, יתחיל להיות "שמח"…

          ועדיין הווארד בחר ביוסטון כי הוא רצה לשחק שם והם נתנו לו את התחושה שהוא יהיה הסמל של המועדון. הווארד לא רצה לשחק בלייקרס וזה היה די ברור שהוא סופר את הימים. אז כאן זה ההבדל האמיתי בין שנה שעברה לבין השנה. אז אם אתה תוהה בינך לבין עצמך (אם תהיות זה בכלל אפשרי אצל אדם שחושב שהוא יודע הכול) איזה הווארד יראו, הווארד של הלייקרס או הווארד של אורלנדו. בעיניי התשובה תהיה הווארד של אורלנדו בעיקר בגלל הרצון של הווארד להוביל קבוצה לאליפות.

          שוב פעם, ההבדל הוא לא מה קורה בתכלס אלא מה קורה בראש של הווארד. בתכלס הווארד מרגיש שהוא והארדן ביחד מהווים את הפרצוף של הקבוצה. עדיין לא ראיתי מספיק את יוסטון בשביל להגיד אם זה באמת ככה או לא אבל מאיך שאני רואה את הווארד משחק ומתנהג הוא בהחלט מרגיש כך.
          לדעתי זה בדיוק ההרגשה שהייתה חסרה לו בלייקרס. בלייקרס הוא ידע שאין מה לעשות זה קודם כל קובי ורק אחר כך שחקנים אחרים. הוא הסתכל על שחקנים טובים כמו פאו גאסול שנהפכים לשחקני משנה (לא מבחינת המשחק עצמו אלא מבחינת החשיפה התקשורתית והיחס של ההנהלה), והבין שהוא לא רוצה להיות כמוהו.

            דדי מסתכל על זה מנקודת מבט של אוהד לייקרס ואחד שלא יכול למצוא פגמים בקובי, שזו נקודת מוצא בעייתית.
            בגדול קובי הוא הסיבה שהווארד לא בלייקרס היום, לא שום דבר אחר.
            גם הלייקרס הבטיחו לו אליפויות, הבטיחו לו 100 מיליון והבטיחו לו את התכניות טלוויזיה והשטויות שהוא אוהב.
            הסיבה שהוא לא שם היא שהכוכב של הקבוצה מתנהג כמו קיסר רומי בימיו האחרונים, הכביסה המלוכלכת לא יצאה שם לגמרי אבל היא יוצאת לאט לאט (כרגע רק בשמועות וחצאי משפטים אז אי אפשר להתייחס לזה מעבר לתגובה).
            הווארד העוגן ההגנתי של הקבוצה, אתמול זה מקרה חריג שבו השופטים הדביקו לו 3 עבירות תוך דקות בודדות מתחילת המשחק ופשוט השביתו את כל המשחק של יוסטון. (שגם ככה שיחקו על הפנים).
            בהתקפה הוא המרכז והם עדיין מנסים ללמוד איך לשחק עם פיבוט באמצע, כולה שבוע מתחילת העונה כך שזה בטוח ישתפר. אם יעמוד על 20 נק' ו-12 ריב' למשחק כמו בעונה הקודמת זה יהיה ענקי בשביל יוסטון, לא צריך יותר מזה.

      א. לין רכז מחליף מצויין. עם בברלי והארדן ביחד הקבוצה נראית טוב בהרבה, במיוחד בהגנה.
      ב. הווארד מבין שהתפקיד שלו זה בהגנה ופחות בהתקפה, אם לא יבין, אז מקהייל יסביר לו. השנה אין לו את הפריבילגיה להתבכיין, זהו נגמרו התירוצים בשבילו.

    נרגיע את כולם- ראיתי את כל המשחק, פשוט התחשבתי באישה ולא תקתקתי על המקלדת במיטה בשתיים בלילה.
    חבל, אלו 3 שעות שינה שהייתי צריך ועכשיו יום עמוס להכין את היאכטה לשבוע הפלגה חזרה לפלורידה.
    סיכום שלי-
    1)המשחק הכי גרוע של הארדן מאז הגיע לקבוצה בערך, הוא פצוע בגב ולא הצליח לשמור על רדיק שברח לו בכל פעם, עדיין- חושך.
    2)בהתקפה בכלל היה משחק נפל של כל החמישייה. ברור לי שבבית, עוד כמה ימים, אחרי שנתעלל בלייקרס, נמחק גם את ההשפלה מהמשחק היום.
    3) כספי היה ענק, אף אחד לא שמר היום בהגנה אז הוא הצטרף לחגיגה, דווקא הוא הראה שיפור רציני בעניין מההכנה ועד היום
    4) השופטים גמרו על יוסטון בשריקות הזויות בכל פעם שהתקרבו לעשר הפרש (גם כל השלשות החופשיות שנתנו לקליפרס לא עזרו)
    5) בלייק גריפין עושה 6 עבירות על כל עבירה ששורקים לו, בכל התקפה של הקבוצה בחסימה נעה ובכל תנועה בהגנה שהוא מתעצל עם הרגליים ודוחף ידיים. בכלל הקליפרס עשו אלף עבירות תוקפות בחסימות נעות כדי לשחרר את רדיק, והשנה עוד אמורים להקפיד על זה.
    6) אוהדי הקליפרס הם פשוט בדיחה, או שמא אוהדי הלייקרס האפסים שהחליפו קבוצה כשהקבוצה שלהם נכנסה למצב קשה. איפה תראה אוהדים של קבוצה בעיר ששורקים בוז לשחקן שעזב את הקבוצה השנייה של העיר.
    7) מתי ביוסטון יקבלו את העובדה שהווארד ואסיק ביחד זה לא עובד מול רוב הקבוצות? כמה זמן יתנו לניסוי הזה? בלי קשר הווארד תוקע את ההתקפה, אבל היה ברור שזה יקרה וזה גם ימשיך לקרות. לפעמים זה רע, לפלייאוף זה לא בהכרח רע שהקצב יואט קצת. רק שלא יקשיב לשאק שנראה לי עושה בו משחקים פסיכולוגים כשאומר שהוא צריך להיות שחקן של 28 ו-15. הוא לא, לא יהיה ולא יכול להיות.
    8) כריס פול הולך על MVP העונה, לברון נראה לי בעניין מנוחה השנה, דוראנט כבר הבינו שהוא לא המנהיג של הקבוצה שלו אפילו אז איך יתנו לו MVP, לרוז יקח זמן להיכנס לעניינים, כך שנראה שהקרקע מוכנה בשבילו להיות ה-איש השנה

    כריס פול בא השנה לקחת אליפות, ריברס הכניס לו רעל מפגר בעינים. רק פארקר או ווסטברוק יכולים להתמודד מולו וגם זה בקושי עם איך שהוא נראה השנה.

    הי מנחם קמתי עכשיו אתה מבין מה הכדורסל הזה עושה לי (נראה לי היום מפטרים אותי) ותשמע כספי עשה נחת אבל סתם נקודה זה לא נראה שהאוורד רציני לא יודע הבעות פניו רשלנות זה לא נראה שהוא בא לעבוד לדעתי רק מאמן נוסח פפוביץ יכול לשלוט עליו ואז יראו את הכישרון המבוזבז שלו כי הרי ברגעים שהוא כן רוצה הצבע שלו לא משנה מי שומר עליו אבל כמה זה קורה ?… חבל הפסד של כולנו מחכה לליקרס דאלס היום

    הפעם יוסטון הפסידה לקליפרס,
    כספי חימם מנועים וכשיגיעו לטויטה סנטר נחזיר להם,
    העיקר הווארד השתפר בעונשין לעומת דינדרה ג'ורדן שהוכיח כי אפשר גרוע יותר שבעתיים
