הלייקרס מתכננים להעלות את חולצתו של שאקיל על גג האולם. לפי דיווח, הלייקרס מתכננת לשים העונה על גג האולם 2 גופיות חדשות:
זאת של שאקיל אוניל (גופייה מס' 34), ב-2.4.2013, במשחק הלייקרס נגד המאבריקס, וזאת של ג'מאל ויליקס (גופייה מס' 52), ב-28.12.2012, במשחק הלייקרס נגד הטרייל בלייזרס.
גופיותיהם של ויליקס ואוניל יהיו הגופיות ה-8 וה-9 בהתאמה שיעלו על גג האולם בהיסטוריית הלייקרס. הגופיות האחרות הן: 13-וילט צ'מברליין, 22-אלג'ין ביילור, 25-גייל גודריץ', 32-מג'יק ג'ונסון, 33-קארים עבדול ג'באר, 42-ג'יימס וורת'י, 44-ג'רי ווסט ו-MIC – גופייתו (למרות שלא שיחק במדי הלייקרס), של צ'יק הרן, שדר משחקי הלייקרס במשך 37 שנים.
שאקיל אוניל שיחק בלייקרס בין 1996 ל-2004, וזכה ב-3 טבעות אליפויות בתחילת שנות ה-2000, עם קובי בראיינט ופיל ג'קסון, ובכל האליפויות שימש האמ.וי.פי של הגמר. הלייקרס הם הקבוצה
הראשונה שמעלה את חולצתו של הדיזל לגג האולם. עברה עונה בלבד מאז פרישתו של אוניל.
ג'מאל ויליקס שיחק בלייקרס בין 1977 ל-1985, ולקח איתם 4 טבעות אליפות. במדי הלייקרס הוא נבחר פעמיים לאול-סטאר, ושימש ב-3 שנותיו האחרונות בקבוצה כסמול פורוורד מחליף לג'יימס וורת'י.

מגיע גם לווילקס. היה יופי של שחקן ואני זוכר את זריקות העונשין הקצת מוזרות שלו.
לליקרס יש את ה"קריטריונים" הכי קשוחים בליגה מבחינת תליית גופיות, והרבה שחקנים "נפגעו" מזה –
אם אתה לא ב hall of fame – אתה לא על הקיר, ולא משנה כמה תרמת לקבוצה (למשל קופר בעבר או פישר בעתיד – שחקנים שהגופייה שלהם היתה תלוייה בתקרת האולם אם היו משחקים בכל קבוצה אחרת).
זו הסיבה שהגופיה של ווילקס תיתלה רק עכשיו – כי הוא נבחר להיכל התהילה בהצבעה האחרונה.
לגבי שאקיל זה מובן מאליו שייבחר…
בעצם אולי רק לאורלנדו יש קריטריון יותר קשוח – לפחות בינתיים – תלו רק את גופיה מספר 6 כמחווה לקהל, ושום גופיה של שחקן (אולי זה ישתנה עם שאקיל בקרוב ?)
