מעורב הופס של יום ראשון (הלילה ה-'אוסקאר') / מנחם לס

1.חיים של סבא-רבא ביום של כדורסל

אנחנו בשרלוט. יום הולדת לקלואי, הנינה בת -3. אבל לפני יום ההולדת,  משחק כדורגל לרומן, הנין בן ה-9. המשחק ב-11 בבוקר. הוא נופל. בוכה. זה ילד שלא בוכה. אני מסתכל על הזרוע ויודע שהוא שבר את עצם ההומרוס.

כריסטין (הנכדה של גייל, אמו של רומן, ובעלה טימי) נוסעים איתו לבית החולים. אנחנו חוזרים לביתו של קני (בנה של גייל). דבי וקני נוסעים אף הם לבית החולים.

משחק הסלטיקס מתחיל אבל הנינות רוצות טיווי של תכנית שלהן. אז אני 'משכנע' אותן לשחק משחק עם גייל בזמן שאני 'גונב' חלקי משחק של מיאמי בסלטיקס.

(ככה עלי להסתכל על משחק הסלטיקס עם גייל ושתי הנינות קלואי  בת ה-3 ומקנזי בת ה-6. גייל בת ה-80 מחזיקה את קלואי. (הייתי רוצה להיראות כמוה עוד שנה וחצי כשאני אגיע לגיל 80!))

בזמן שטים, אביו של הנין רומן שולח תמונה מבית החולים… עשו X_RAY ומצאו שבר, אבל הרופא האורטופד יגיע רק עוד שעתיים, אז בינתיים חבשו את רומן ואביו טימי שולח את התמונה…

ועכשיו כשאני חוזה בווריורס בת'אנדר, כולם מגיעים הנה…

ועם כל הבלגן (ושני כלבים בני כמה חודשים שרצים כמו מטורפים בין הרגליים) עלי לשבת ולכתוב בזמן שאני זורק מבטים בטיווי.

2. שיפוט גרוע בבוסטון שהשאיר את ווייטסייד "SPEECHLESS"

השיפוט היה גרוע בבוסטון, במיוחד בדקות האחרונות. מרכוס סמארט עשה כמה פלוקים שהיו נותנים לו את האוסקאר (חלוקת הפרסים הערב). מילא, זה קורה במשחקים ביתיים.

אבל הצורה שחסן ביטא את הזוועה תעלה לו בכמה גרושים.

הוא שוב עלה מהספסל להופעה מרשימה שכמעט נתנה לו עוד טריפל דאבל (13 חיצים, 15 קרשים, 8 בונבונים)

הוא אומר אח"כ:

"Marcus Smart got away with some good flops at the end," Whiteside said,  . "There's plenty of film that shows that's" what he does. He got away with some good flops at the end. It kind of went again and again in his direction."

Whiteside said Smart's approach left him speechless — at least until after the game.

"I ain't even touched him," he said. "You can look at countless film. That's what he does. That's what he does. He flops. He flops pretty good."

הערב הוא ערב חלוקת האוסקארים בהוליווד. ביוצ'ר החליט שזה הזמן הנכון לתת אוסקארים לשחקני הליגה:

5. מרק קיובן: חייבים להרחיק את קשת ה-3

מרק קיובן הוא בעל הקבוצה הקולני יותר מכולם. אולי כוכבנותו בתכנית הטיווי "SHARK TANK" נותנת לו אקסטרה מוטיבציה לפתוח את פיו, למרות שהוא – כפי שידוע לכם – בד"כ לא זקוק למוטיבציה כזאת.

הרעיון החדש שלו הוא להרחיק את קשת השלוש.

-"בכמה, מיסטר קיובן?"

-אילו זה היה תלוי בי הייתי מרחיקה בשלושה פיט (קצת מעל 90 ס"מ) אבל הליגה לעולם לא תסכים לזה. בינתיים כל הרחקה תהיה חיובית למשחק!"

ההצעה הזאת באה אחרי הצעתו האחרונה להגדיל את מספר קבוצות הפלייאוף ל-20.

ההצדקה להצעתו?

"רובם זורקים חצי מטר מאחורי הקו כבר עכשיו,  ועדיין הזריקה הפכה קלה מדי עבור קבלת מתנה!"

הגידול בנסיונות מה-3 גדל בהתמדה. הקבוצה המובילה בנסיונות מה-3 היא יוסטון רוקטס כשב-2013-14 היא זרקה 26.6 דאונטאונים למשחק. עונה אחרי הם זרקו 32.7 נסיונות, גידול של 6.1 דאונטאונים למשחק.

העונה, 6 המובילות בדאונטאונים מנסות מעל 28 למשחק, כשאחת מהן היא המבריקס של קיובן עם 28.1 למשחק.

לדעתו מספר הזריקות לא יקטן עם הקשת החדשה, ויתרון נוסף הוא שהוא "יפתח" יותר את ההגנה, ויאפשר יותר כניסות, "שתי עובדות שתוספנה דינמיקה ומהירות למשחק".

הוא אומר: "עם שחקנים כסטפן קרי, קליי ת'ומפסון וקווין דוראנט הליגה הפכה ל'ליגה של שלשות'. לכן עלינו לעשות את השלשה קצת יותר קשה ואז התמורה לשלוש תהיה מעט יותר נדירה, ולכן יותר חשובה!"

As I continue to embark on my NBA journey, I have decided to sever my relationship with Dan Fegan and Relativity Sports. I have the utmost respect for Dan, but this is the right decision for me. My sole focus remains working with my teammates to position the Rockets for a pursuit of a championship. I wish Dan and the team at Relativity all the best in the future.

אגב, גם דיאדרה ג'ורדן פיטר אותו בקיץ שעבר עם כל הבלגן שהיה עם דאלאס ועם הקליפרס. ג'ון וול פיטר אותו בחודש שעבר.

הטיימינג של הפיטורין הוא מעניין. האווארד – 8 פעמים אול סטאר – מעוניין כנראה לבדוק את שוק השחקנים החופשיים, ולבחור את הקבוצה האחרונה כנראה בקריירה שלו.

על האווארד להחליט אם הוא רוצה להישאר עם יוסטון באופציה שישנה לו ב-23.3 מיליון או לצאת לשוק החופשי כבר הקיץ ולוותר על האופציה שישנה לו.

לך תדע. אולי כל מה שהשחקנים הללו רוצים הוא לבחור בשקט את עתידם ללא סוכן הלוחץ ולוחץ כי ה-10 מיליון שהם חלקו מאד מגרים אותו לסגור עניין, ולא תמיד לטובתו של השחקן.

Containing Stephen Curry is not as easy as Oscar Robertson thinks

The Big O criticized NBA coaches for not defending Curry high enough on the court. A look at the tape reveals that Robertson's case is misguided.

 

Stephen Curry's dominance is hard to comprehend. He's not a rare physical specimen and no one has used the three-point shot as devastatingly well as he has in NBA history. That leads to some misunderstanding about what makes him great, even by the game's legends.

Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson chimed in recently on the subject. He said that Curry benefits from lax defense and coaches who "don't understand the game of basketball."

"They double-teamed me an awful lot during my career," Robertson said in an interview with ESPN's Mike and Mike radio show, via NJ.com. "I look at games today, and they'll start a defense at the foul line. When I played, they were picking you up when you got the ball inbounds."

The thing is, teams do that all the time when they play against the Golden State Warriors and it doesn't matter. All the evidence anyone needs to come to that conclusion can be found in Thursday's night game against the Orlando Magic, when Curry went off for 51 points.

Opponents DO pick up Curry early

Magic guard Victor Oladipo had the primary job of defending Curry throughout the first half. In carrying out his duties, Oladipo picked Curry up full court and was pressuring him as soon as he crossed half court. Oladipo guarded Curry closely and grabbed him as much as he could without getting called for fouls when he was off the ball.

Part of what makes Curry so hard to guard is that he doesn't need to have the ball in his hands at all times to be dangerous. He is a tremendous cutter and a deadly shooter coming off screens. He can give up the ball once he crosses half court and create his own scoring opportunities anyway by constantly moving.

If someone guards Curry 35 feet away from the basket to prevent him from getting the ball and pulling up, he's more than happy to make them pay in other ways.

Curry can hit contested three-pointers anyway

The Warriors are clever about exploiting big men who don't like to step outside the lane. If there's a center that won't leave the paint, they run hand-offs with Andrew Bogut that ideally result in Curry getting the ball with no one close to him. They destroyed both theMiami Heat and the Magic with that move in consecutive days.

This is probably what Robertson meant when he said defenses should account for Curry's shooting

"If I've got a guy who's great shooting the ball outside, don't you want to extend your defense out a little bit?" he said.

It's hard to argue with that in this one respect. If the big man doesn't step outside when Curry is coming off a screen, he will have open looks and he will turn them into points more often than not. Plenty of guards can hit those open pull ups as well, so in that sense, Curry really isn't that special.

But having the big man come out to meet Curry doesn't guarantee a stop. He can pull up from further out than anyone else or shoot over the help defender like he isn't there.

Extending the defense beyond the three-point line as Robertson suggests doesn't actually work against Curry. He can hit contested three-point shots, but he can also use his ball-handling and quickness to get to the rim.

That only leaves one tactic The Big O suggested: double teams. Yeah, about that …

Double teams don't work against the Warriors

Curry is a unique talent, a cheat code. He barely needs space to launch 28-footers that hit nothing but net, but he also possesses the intelligence to recognize when a defense is being over-aggressive and the ability to take advantage of it with clever cuts or drives to the basket. He would thrive on any team, no matter his teammates.

With the Warriors, though, he's even more unstoppable. Even if an opponent throws double teams Curry's way, the rest of the Warriors are skilled enough to pick apart the defense in those 4-on-3 situations.

We've seen that sequence time and time again this season. Petrified of Curry, the other team swarms the pick-and-roll 30 feet from the hoop. In response, Curry passes toDraymond Green, and Green creates an open look by attacking the basket and collapsing the remaining defenders. Curry might not be directly scoring or assisting the resulting hoop, but his presence created it anyway.

Bogut is not as versatile a screener in those situations, so the Warriors have Curry playing off the ball and Bogut facilitating often when the two are on the court together. The can also go small with Green at center and have a scoring threat at every position.

Double-teaming Curry may prevent him from going for 50, but it'll just open up the floor for his talented teammates to pick up the slack.

The Big O suggested different ways to defend Curry, but failed to realize that teams are already using those strategies to no avail. Curry and the Warriors are simply too adaptable to be fully contained. Even if opponents do everything right, they always seem to find a way to score.

    קרי היום היה פשוט בלתי ניתן לעצירה – תשבור לו את העקב הוא יחזור ויקלע עליך שלשה.
    תוביל ב11 כמה דקות לסוף והוא יבוא וינצח אותך עם שלשה מהחצי.
    פשוט לא אנושי, אין מילה אחרת לתאר את זה

      OKC ממש הפסידו את המשחק הזה היום. אין מצב שקבוצה ברמתם (ואם כל הכבוד לג"ס) זורקת הפרשים ועושה כאלו טעויות. OKC העונה פשוט מפסידה לגדולות (ג"ס, ס"א וקליבלנד) והם מראים שעדיין חסר שם משהו.

    אם ירחיקו את הקשת אז מה יקרה לשלשות מהפינה? יש שמה אולי חצי מטר בין בקשת לקו החוץ..משמה,אני משער,רוב השלשות נזרקות כי מהפינות יש את האחוזים הגבוהים ביותר

    שאלה. בסיטואציה כמו שקרתה עם אוקלהומה אחרי ההחטאה של ווסטברוק, קארי קיבל את הכדור בערך בשלשה שלו שנשארו עוד שלוש וחצי שניות. לא עדיף ישר לנסות לרוץ אליו ברגע של ההחטאה או עוד לפני שהוא מקבל את הכדור כדי לנסות להפריע לו לקחת את הזריקה שהוא לקח (נעצר וכיוון) לא אומר שזה יעצור אותו, פשוט אוקלהומה ירדה מהר להגנה להגן על השלוש לכולם יודעים מה קארי יכול לעשות ככה שזה לא היה יעיל כ"כ.
