שינוי משמעותי צפוי בפורמט הגמר של ה-NBA, החל מעונה זו. ב-2014 הגמר צפוי לחזור לשיטה של 2-2-1-1-1 (2 משחקים אצל הקבוצה עם הביתיות, 2 אצל הקבוצה בלי הביתיות, 1 אצל המארחת, 1 אצל הקבוצה השנייה ו-1 אצל המארחת במידת הצורך), לאחר 29 שנה בפורמט 2-3-2, ששיחקו בו לראשונה הסלטיקס והלייקרס.
ההחלטה צפוייה לבוא לאישור הליגה בישיבת ההנהלה הקרובה, באוקטובר. אחת הסיבות לשינוי היא שזה פוגע בקבוצה הביתית. במקרה שהסדרה מגיעה ליתרון של 3-2 לקבוצה השנייה (כל קבוצה ניצחה משחק 1 או 2 בחוץ, או שלא הפסידה בבית), אז קשה מאוד למארחת לחזור מזה לאליפות, ולראיה, עשו את זה 4 קבוצות (האחרונה מיאמי, העונה), ב-29 השנים האחרונות.
כמו כן, אם לכל קבוצה יהיו 3 משחקים בבית, גדל הסיכוי שיהיה משחק שביעי, שיביא יותר כסף ועניין לאנ.בי.איי, וזה מעלה את העניין של הליגה ושותפיה העסקיים (ABC משדרת את הגמר), במהלך זה. בסקר שנערך ב-ESPN, 74% מהמשיבים העדיפו להחזיר את הפורמט לשיטה המסורתית של 2-2-1-1-1.
רק הבעיה היחידה בזה היא שהשחקנים יצטרכו כל יום לטוס מהמערב למזרח ולהפך
אז שיקומו יום קודם
זו הסיבה שעברו לסדרת 2-3-2 בגלל תלונות שחקני הסלטיקס והלייקרס על הנסיעות מחוף אל חוף.
כמובן שאם זה סדרה למשל בין בולס/פיסטונס לספרס/רוקטס/מבריקס, אז זה כמו גמר איזורי ואף טיסה קצרה יותר מאשר למשל מיאמי/אורלנדו-בוסטון/ניו-יורק או גמר מערב בין שניים מבין יוסטון דאלאס וס"א ואף יכולות להיות אפשרויות ללא טיסה כמו ניקס-נטס במזרח או לייקרס-קליפרס במערב.
משמע זה להוסיף עוד שתי טיסות לשחקנים שגם ככה עייפים אחרי עונה ארוכה, למשחק שלהם זה לא יוסיף. אבל זה באמת יוסיף יותר עניין.
נ.ב. רועי, אתה כותב מעולה יחסית לילד בגילך! אבל תשתדל לפרט פחות בדברים שלא צריך. לדוגמא את ההסבר על שיטת הגמר הנוכחית, זה משהו שלא צריך. אנשים שנכנסים לאתר, כנראה יודעים את זה. ולהם זה יכול להיות מציק.
אני לא מבין, רועי, הדוק כתב בדיוק אותו דבר אתמול ב-"מעורב אמריקאי" והיו על כך איזה 15 תגובות. אז מה אתה בא פתאום עם אותו דבר בדיוק?
נקודה מעניינת לגבי הגברת הסיכוי למשחק שביעי – לא חשבתי על זה.
ווסטברוק עבר אוקתוסקופיה – היתה איזו בעיה עם תפר מהניתוח.

I think the old format was bad to the AWAY team, not the HOME team. It is very difficult to win 3 games in a row, which means any AWAY team that wants to win the title has to win (probably) at least TWICE (out of 4 games) in her opponent's court
The 2:3:2 format was better by far, to my opinion, to the home team
