Team performance was measured by FIFA rankings. The results? Players in the top third in &quot;estimated wins added&quot; (a calculation of the number of wins a player adds to a team's season compared with a pedestrian substitute) were deemed top talent. Assists, field goal percentage and defensive rebounds were used to assess teamwork. Not only did adding more talent eventually become harmful, but teamwork played a big role in how talent affected performance. In a sport like football (soccer), having more than 75% stars on the team turns out to be counterproductive. As a result, instead of competing against the \u201ccompetition\u201d, the team starts to compete within itself, leading to poorer performance. On the other hand, in baseball the players have an incentive to cooperate all the time as each player\u2019s success is a win-win (non-zero sum game).<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Team psychology and role design in business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u05d4\u05de\u05d7\u05e7\u05e8\u05d9\u05dd \u05e0\u05e2\u05e9\u05d5 \u05db\u05d3\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d4\u05e1\u05d9\u05e7 \u05de\u05e1\u05e7\u05e0\u05d5\u05ea \u05dc\u05e2\u05d5\u05dc\u05dd \u05d4\u05d1\u05d9\u05d6\u05e0\u05e1:<\/p>\n<p>The sports analogy can be applied directly into the business world. This is how you end up hearing stories about one flight attendant hitting another with the tray, mid-flight and in front of all passengers. In a study by Boris Groysberg and Jeffrey T. Polzer of Harvard Business School and Hillary Anger Elfenbein of Washington University, effectiveness of teams of Wall Street researchers was at its maximum when<strong>65.1%<\/strong>\u00a0of the analysts were &quot;stars.&quot; Beyond that, the effectiveness (as rated by clients) dropped off.
