The Milwaukee Bucks have the best chance of landing the No. 1 pick, at 25%. Philadelphia is close behind at 19.9%, followed by Orlando at 15.6% and Utah at 11.9%. A team with the best odds hasn\u2019t actually won the lottery since the Magic did it in 2004 \u2014 and as ESPN\u2019s Bill Simmons notes, winning the lottery might not be such great fortune after all.<\/p>\n

Through 29 NBA lotteries dating back to 1985, only one franchise ever won the NBA title with its own no. 1 overall pick. The team? San Antonio with David Robinson (two titles) and Tim Duncan (four titles, two with Robinson).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That stat, simply put, is mind-blowing. Plenty of No. 1 picks turn out to be busts, like Michael Olowokandi or Kwame Brown, but the list of undisputed NBA greats that failed to win a title for their first team is staggering: Patrick Ewing (New York, 1985), Shaquille O\u2019Neal (Orlando, 1992), Chris Webber (Orlando to Golden State, 1993), Allen Iverson (Philadelphia, 1996), LeBron James (Cleveland, 2003), and Dwight Howard (Orlando, 2004). It\u2019s still a bit too early to pass judgement on Derrick Rose (Chicago, 2008), Blake Griffin (2009, Los Angeles Clippers), who still have a chance to win titles with their first franchises.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
