That would have been an intriguing development heading into the offseason, with the franchise having an additional trade chip to use to add talent around Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

But after beating the Washington Wizards on Sunday and shocking the Bucks on Tuesday, Brooklyn now has a greater than 99% chance of making the playoffs, per ESPN's Basketball Power Index (BPI). Brooklyn was winning before that, but we know 48-minute games can go poorly for overmatched teams having a nice first half. They’re playing with house money at this point in the season, but it doesn’t mean they don’t want to make the playoffs. Ja Morant has been spectacular and the Grizzlies have been a great story. However, the bubble has been a disaster for them. As long as Butler is healthy coming up in the next week, the Heat will look at all of this as a positive.
